1 What’s your name & where are you from?

My name is Rachel Misick and I’m originally from Cleveland, Ohio but I live in Chicago.

2 How did you start The Crew and how long has it been out for?

The Crew was an idea that was born about a year ago. I found myself lacking a creative outlet in my day to day life so I decided to start a passion project focusing on what I love most: writing, fashion, and culture. It took a while to hash out and develop, but I’m proud to say that it’s finally finished and ready to launch any day now!

3 What are your goals for The Crew and what does your brand represent?

The Crew represents a new voice in fashion; one that takes fashion from the runways and 1% and places influence in the streets and contemporary culture, which arguably are the strongest influences in fashion and trends anyways. We want to represent streetwear, high/low trends, and urban culture in an intelligent way while also reporting on social issues that affect millennials.

On a simple scale, my goals for The Crew are to reach as many readers as possible and be a positive and influential voice within their day to day life. Taking a deeper look at the mission, my goal is to bring mainstream attention to subcultures in fashion and culture and report on the cutting-edge trends and news as it pertains to our demographic.

3 Do you work with a team or just by yourself?

I serve as the Editor and Creative Director as well as the primary content creator, but I have a wonderful team of freelancers who have helped see this vision become a reality.

4 Who and what inspires you?

I’m inspired daily by the people I see around me; from the guy on the train headed to work to the teens taking selfies in the mall. I’ve always been interested by society and personal self-expressio

My advice would be to take your time and lay a foundation. Often times people have an idea and chase it immediately without having any knowledge or plan on how to turn it into a quality product/project. Spontaneity works for some, but planning and educating yourself on all aspects of your project will only benefit you down the road as you continue to grow and develop, especially as a woman in business. We need to be ten times more prepared than our male counterparts (still), so always make sure you come to the table with work that demands respect.

I would also say to never give up on your dreams no matter how lofty they seem or how many obstacles are placed in your way. We all get knocked down in life and have set-backs, but instead of allowing them to derail you, use them as fuel to prove yourself even more.

5 I see you’re into sneakers what’s your favorite sneaker?

Indeed, I am into sneakers! I grew up an athlete with all brothers and my older brother happens to be a sneaker collector so I’ve always had the plug on the latest drops. I’ve had many pairs over the years, but I would say that my favorite pairs are either Retro 1s or Jordan 11s. They are very different from each other, but both so distinctive and versatile.

6 What are some other talents you have that people wouldn’t know about?

I speak French and play soccer. I rarely show my athletic side these days (retired), but I was a competitive athlete my entire life and it’s probably one of the strongest factors in my personality.

As for speaking French, I started studying French when I was young and would borrow French Vogue from a teacher at school. I was obsessed with the editorials and overall culture, and would sit with a dictionary and translate articles as best as I could. From there I went on to major in French in college and eventually moved to the South of France to study and teach.

7 If you could have any job in the world what would it be and why?

I would be my own boss running my own publication and media group with which I could have creative freedom. I’ve fallen in love with the process of starting and running a business as well as the leadership and connections I’m able to build. For now, The Crew is not my full-time job, but a girl can dream…

8 Where could we find The Crew?

Currently you can find The Crew on Instagram at @thecrewmag, and within days you’ll be able to visit our website www.thecrewmag.com for daily content!

9 Do you have any new projects coming up or anything we should look out for?

Other than launching The Crew, I’ve personally been working with Nike Chicago as an influencer and my photographer and I have been given liberty to create some cool editorials featuring their products which we will be showing on Instagram.
